Poem

Kill the Deadness in Me

Like a flame to the darkness
So will my passion be
A torch bringing ardent light
To kill the deadness in me

Out of a bleak existence
Came love and joy abound
To save me from an inner death
And lead a life profound

With discipline and steadfast
Of this spirit I will thrive
For life is more beside you
Restored, awake, alive!

Based on the phrase “a killing of a deadness within” in Bird by Bird by Anne Lamotte.
